Are you an experienced HPDE, track day, time attack or wheel to wheel racer and looking to drive one of the most complete production based race cars that isn’t a professional race car, in existence? The Racer on Rails BMW Spec E46 #136 is a brand new and from the ground up, race car build from our shop that has taken everything we’ve learned from the numerous builds we’ve done for customers, the numerous Spec E46’s purchased by RoR customers from other builders across the country and our years of racing nationally in the amature and professional ranks.
The #136 is as fast, if not faster than the original #109 Spec E46 and is a top level example of what Spec E46 was intended to be all about – just enough power, amazing brakes and overall grip balance. Excellent under braking, quick transitions and just enough power to be one of the fastest cars at any event, in any class, enough power to keep your right foot honest but not so powerful that the car is gobbling up consumables or difficult to keep temperatures under control.
The #136 is so good that it won it’s first race at the 2023 June Sprints at Road America! Check out the race below!
Why the Spec E46?
Spec E46 is one of the best racing series in the USA, continuing to grow and a class where the driver, car preparation and setup make the difference. About 90% of the parts are identical amongst competitors. The car is such a great performance package and economical to race that the SCCA allows it to compete in the Touring 3 class against new generation Ford Mustangs, Nissan 370’s, BMW Z4’s, Honda Civic Type R’s, Subaru WRX STI’s, Subaru BRZ/FRS/GT86’s, etc… AND it is considered the performance bar for the class.
In official Spec E46 trim, the car runs at a 2850 minimum weight on 255/45/17 Toyo Proxe RR tires and in Touring 3 trim, the car runs at 2950 minimum weight and on 225/45/17 Hoosier A7 or R7 tires. While the car is running heavier and with a smaller tire in Touring 3 trim, the stickier tire has resulted in the car being 1-2 seconds faster in Touring 3 trim, compared to Spec E46 trim.
Check out a pretty epic Spec E46 battle during a Touring 3 SCCA race at Portland International Raceways – lots of in and out of class battling with a Honda S2000 and a Ford Mustang Cobra.
